On the 10th minute of the 10th hour of the 10th day of the 10th month - aka today - Cartoon Network Arabic (CNA) launches across the Middle East. The free-to-air title, celebrated at Dubai's Media One last Wednesday (6th Oct), will air popular cartoons such as The Powerpuff Girls and the UAE's own Freej 24 hours a day.
The fully Arabic channel has a potential reach of 35 million homes in the MENA region, and will promote local titles from production houses such as Jordan's Rubicon and Dubai-based Lammtara. "This is a real statement of intent that we believe there are talented people in the Middle East that will help us grow," said Alan Musa, vice president of CNA parent company Turner Broadcasting.
"We’ve got to get this channel right or the kids will go elsewhere," Musa added, "and we are fundamentally focussed on creating a beautiful channel called Cartoon Network Arabic."
