It's about prestige
If Showtime couldn't sell advertising against the Premier League, how will Abu Dhabi TV be able to? Do they have some hotshot sales exec that Showtime doesn't have? I think having the Premier League transmission rights is more about prestige and being able to say you are the market leader in sports broadcasting. Hopefully, it will be cheaper than Showtime, which is very expensive.

"Fans will have to pay to watch the new channel" I do hope it is more than one "channel". Showtime currently broadcasts all EPL matches live across a number of channels. I do trust we are not taking a step backwards in Middle east broadcasting with this deal. Will there be duel language commentary? Will ALL games be shown live? Will there be expert PROFESSIONAL" analysis (or will it be ART revisited?) Will we be able to subscribe using an existing smart card (ala Firstnet) or will we require a separate card (ala Al Jazeera?), ...and finally, at what cost? Showtime have been a breath of fresh air when it comes to the EPL. ADTV has much to live up too and little pedigree to enhance confidence. Advertising revenues are down and sponsorship deals hard to come by. I guess ADTV has a bottomless pit to outbid Showtime but at what cost to the viewer?

Why?
Why is it that the EPL can't be played on FTA? I think ADMC should offer more money to be able to play the matches on Abu Dhabi Sports channel. This would do wonders for the channel's ad revenue.
