Middle East telcos to deploy new 3G video services

Zain, Etisalat and STC are set to deploy new mobile TV and internet services.

Australian streaming video specialist Dilithium has secured landmark deals with three of the Middle East’s biggest telecommunications service providers for the delivery of live mobile TV services.

Under the terms of agreements signed this week, UAE-based Etisalat, Saudi Arabia’s STC and Kuwait’s Zain will deploy Dilithium’s Vivas 3G-based live mobile TV platform in select markets across the region.

Etisalat plans to use the technology to offer video portal, VCCV (video call completion to voice), video blogging, video push and video karaoke services to customers in the UAE, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

Zain will offer a range of new services integrating mobile comms and Flash-based internet and PC applications, in addition to video surveillance and VCCV services.

Meanwhile, the region’s biggest telco service provider, STC, will offer customers in Saudi Arabia video portal and video conferencing solutions.

The deals mark a significant development for Dilithium in the Middle East, a market it has struggled to crack despite enjoying success in more than 60 countries worldwide.
