Versatility is a concept that has quickly gained traction in the business world since the economic downturn began to bite in the final quarter of 2008.
But the protean approach hits a snag when applied to the event production industry in the GCC during the rapidly approaching hot summer months.
Normally an abundance of corporate work is available as a way to pay the bills during the slow season. Although definitely still available, financial worries have seen such events scaled back in size, leaving many production specialists looking for alternatives.
After a bumper season for the region’s live event industry, things are beginning to grind to a temporary halt, and many event professionals are silently wondering “what now?”
Many producers and suppliers are feeling like dogs without a bone.
So what options will still available to event producers in the GCC in the third quarter?
With hibernation out of the question, what the GCC events industry needs, without a shadow of a doubt, is a series of full-sized indoor venues.
The live event industries in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, in particular, would benefit from the establishment of such facilities.
With bands beginning to mark the UAE on their calendars as a regular tour stop rather than a one-off destination, permanent indoor venues are needed in order to sustain this trend and cater for performers considering extra stops on their European summer tours.
Recognising this demand, Dubai’s soon-to-be-opened Palladium venue will provide a welcome boost to events industry, offering an attractive venue for artists adverse to the blistering sun.
If international acts, local companies, the event production sector and most importantly, the punters, throw their support behind this venue, similar facilities will inevitably crop up across the UAE.
Once this occurs, the dreaded summer slowdown could rapidly become a thing of the past.
